[wanabidii] GOOD NEWS FOR YOU

You will love this.

Every parent is concerned about THIS- how their child will turn out in life.

I know there is a lot of confusion about what to do when it comes to handling children in the 21st Century. Today our children are exposed to a lot of information and influence which is impacting on their behavior.

You may notice that nowadays children prefer to;

Ø Spend a lot of time watching tv on social media- twitting, wassup and Facebook

Ø Not taking responsibilities seriously.

Ø Spending too much time chatting with friend and influencing each other(mostly negatively).

Ø Locking themselves in their room and hardly talking to you.

Ø Less confidence.

Ø Sometimes display an unpleasant attitude.

Ø Not taking academics seriously. Would prefer going to the malls rather than read.

Ø Untidiness

Let me explain what is going on.

In the last couple of years scientists have made great strides in understanding what is happening in the brain during teenage years and how it impacts their behavior.

Today we shall look at only 1 key part of the teenage brain that controls their behavior at this stage. In future e mails, we shall look at 3 other parts.

Nucleus Accumbens - This part of the brain is responsible for creating the urge in teenagers to prefer high excitement, low effort activities. From the age of 12 years, this region is developing rapidly and this explains why your child likes spending a lot of time watching tv, on social media, playing video games or spending time in the shopping malls. (In the old days, we listened to music, if you were lucky to have a family radio). These activities gives them high excitement but requires little effort. We all know, anything done over a long period of time becomes habit. The things your child does repeatedly will become a habit and that may have a long term negative impact on her / him. For example, they may grow up being anti social or preferring to engage in activities that are not productive.

As a father of four grown up children, I have had my share of challenges of bringing up children. Coupled with in-depth understanding on how the brain develops and its impact on behavior, we have designed Transformational Programs that have seen over 50,000 youth transform their lives. We apply the Neuroscience of Change and Success Conditioning to assist the youth develop a more powerful mindset that puts them ahead of the rest.

This December we shall be running these Youth Programs at Peak Performance Centre on Kabarnet Road behind Uchumi Ngong Hyper. See the Daily Nation Newspaper (15th November 2013) on page 9. It might be the best Christmas gift to give your child.
