The United States offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the attacks yesterday and today, at a market in Gombe and a prayer grounds in Damaturu in northern Nigeria, that took the lives of at least 60 people and injured dozens more, according to reports from the scene. We strongly condemn the attacks, and reiterate our commitment to help Nigeria and its neighbors counter Boko Haram, both through bilateral assistance and through support to the Multinational Joint Task Force, which Nigeria and other Lake Chad Basin countries are establishing to facilitate a coordinated regional response to combat this terrorist threat. We reiterate the United States’ continued support for Nigeria’s efforts to bring those responsible for these attacks and previous attacks to justice. |
