Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Charles Rivkin Travels to Vietnam and Taiwan

Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Charles H. Rivkin will travel to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Taipei, Taiwan, May 26 – June 3, where he will focus on strengthening economic ties as the foundation to our robust overall relationships with these economies.

In Vietnam, May 26 – 30, Assistant Secretary Rivkin will meet with government officials, business leaders, and representatives from the private sector to discuss the accomplishments of the 20 years since the normalization of the U.S.-Vietnam relationship and ways forward for our growing economic partnership. On May 27 in Hanoi, he will participate in the launch of a public-private partnership between the Department of State and the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation to support “Helmets for Kids.” Through this innovative program, partners are advancing the common goal of promoting essential and life-saving road safety education for children throughout Vietnam. On May 29 in Ho Chi Minh City, he is scheduled to deliver remarks on entrepreneurship to participants of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative. Later that day he will give a speech to University of Economics students commemorating the 20th anniversary of normalization of U.S.-Vietnam diplomatic relations.

In Taipei, May 31 – June 3, Assistant Secretary Rivkin will meet with Taiwan authorities, business executives, and private sector representatives to discuss ways to further deepen our robust economic partnership. On June 2, he will deliver opening remarks at the Computex Forum, the world’s second-largest information and communications technology forum and the biggest in Asia. Later that day, he will speak at the opening ceremony of Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab Future City Workshop, a cutting-edge, week-long program co-sponsored by Taiwan’s Industrial Development Bureau, designed to inspire Taiwan’s young entrepreneurs and students.
