Coordinator Macon Phillips Travel to the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia

Coordinator Macon Phillips of the Bureau of International Information Programs will travel to the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia, October 19–November 1.

On October 19, Coordinator Phillips will travel to the Philippines. In Mindanao, he will launch the U.S. Embassy’s MY PEACE project that empowers at-risk Madrasah students by providing English language and life skills training. He will also visit a Legal Aid Clinic Program, designed to empower marginalized and at-risk communities through outreach programs and access to legal services. While in Manila, the Coordinator will meet with journalists and young leaders in technology and social media.

On October 23, Coordinator Phillips will travel to Malaysia to meet with government officials and visit the Islamic Information Center in Kuching. At the U.S. Embassy-sponsored Lincoln Corner at the Sarawak State Library, Coordinator Phillips will participate in a community program supporting the rights of people with disabilities. In Kota Bharu, the Coordinator will kick-off a sports skills program designed to foster tolerance and combat violent extremism, and visit an entrepreneurship program at the University of Malaysia-Kelantan. He will also participate in events in Kuala Lumpur.

On October 28, Coordinator Phillips will travel to Indonesia. He will deliver remarks at a coding summit on October 29 at @america, the state-of-the-art U.S. cultural center in Jakarta, on how digital tools improve governance in both the United States and Indonesia. In Bandung, he will visit the American Corner at the Bandung Institute of Technology. Coordinator Phillips will participate in an Indonesian-language Twitter Q&A on the challenges and opportunities facing young people in an increasingly interconnected world. Interested participants will be able to tune in live by following the U.S. Embassy Jakarta’s Twitter handle @usembassyjkt and submit questions using the hashtag #AskUs.
