Greening Embassies Forum 06/25/2014 11:43 AM EDT Mayor's Sustainability Awards Ceremony Held at Embassy of Denmark in Partnership with the D.C. Greening Embassies Forum Notice to the Press Office of the Spokesperson Washington, DC June 25, 2014 The annual presentation of the “Mayor’s Sustainability Awards” will take place June 26, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Embassy of Denmark. Remarks will be given by Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Danish Ambassador H.E. Taksoe-Jensen, and Under Secretary for Management Patrick Kennedy of the U.S. Department of State. The audience will include members of the foreign diplomatic community, international organizations, and the Washington, D.C. Government. As members of the D.C. Greening Embassies Forum, 77 foreign embassies have signed a sustainability pledge to support greening efforts in the District. These embassies participate in State Department-coordinated sustainability workshops and events. Each year, the Mayor selects leading D.C. entities, including embassies and businesses, for the Mayor’s Sustainability Awards. The awards highlight sustainable practices in eight areas: Energy & Buildings, Transportation, Water Conservation, Waste Reduction, Eco-Purchasing, Jobs & Community, Training, and Reporting & Action. The event’s host country, Denmark, is celebrating an ambitious and leading goal to become fossil free by 2050. Both the Embassy of Denmark in the U.S. and the Danish Governments are encouraging sustainable design and practices around the world. Under Secretary Kennedy will be available for interviews.
