1) Research Fellow in Product Lifetimes (ref: N0294) [posted 7.11.13]

This post is in a new £11m research centre, UK INDEMAND, a collaboration between Nottingham Trent University and the universities of Cambridge, Leeds and Bath. UK INDEMAND is a five year Research Councils UK initiative to reduce the use of materials as a means of achieving reductions in energy consumption.
The role of the successful applicant will be to increase knowledge and understanding of key factors influencing product longevity in the UK in one or more of the following sectors: buildings, vehicles, electrical and electronic equipment, industrial goods, consumer durables. You will explore suppliers' and users' preferences regarding product lifetimes, how long they expect products to last and the extent to which their expectations are met. Your work will include comparing the attitudes and behaviour of businesses and government with those of households. You should have experience in understanding consumer behaviour and quantitative methods such as surveys.
The successful applicant will join a research team headed by Professor Tim Cooper. This is one of three UK INDEMAND posts to be based at NTU. Applicants should have a PhD (or be at the Viva stage) in a social science or design-related discipline, or equivalent experience in a research environment. 2) 6-month Consultancy with UNEP DTIE [posted 7.11.13]
Closing date: 6 pm on 18 November 2013
A consultant for a period of 6 months (with possible contract renewal) is requested to support the SPP team ensure a good and timely implementation of communication activities related to the SPPEL and the SPP Initiative (SPPI), the effective Implementation of the SPP Initiative Work Plan and SPPEL activities, and the maintenance of the SPP Community of the SCP Clearinghouse. The consultant will assist the Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) Programme officer in the following:
- Overall communication for SPPI and SPPEL projects in coordination with the SCP Clearinghouse (50% of the assignment)
- Implementation of SPPI and SPPEL activities (50% of the assignment)
