Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State, Ambassador David Thorne, will travel to Milan, Italy, July 9–10. Ambassador Thorne will visit the USA Pavilion at the Milan Expo and meet with USA Pavilion sponsors and supporters. Ambassador Thorne joins a growing list of high-level U.S. government visitors to the Pavilion, including First Lady Michelle Obama, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, and NASA Administrator Charles Bolden. The USA Pavilion, which has welcomed over one million visitors since opening May 1, showcases American leadership and innovation in the fields of food security, sustainability and climate change, science and technology, and nutrition and health. The U.S. Pavilion is funded entirely from private, non-USG sources. In its six-month run from May 1 to October 31, 2015, the Milan Expo is expected to host over 20 million visitors. With the theme “Feeding the Planet: Energy for Life,” this is the first world’s fair to address tackling the global food security challenge of feeding more than nine billion people by 2050. The United States is one of 140 countries participating in this world’s fair, along with dozens of NGOs and civil society groups. For updates, please follow Ambassador Thorne on Twitter @Amb_Thorne.
