On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Slovenia as you celebrate Statehood Day on June 25. Since the declaration of your independence twenty-four years ago, Slovenia has become a valuable partner on issues of collective security, human rights, and the promotion of democracy. Your efforts in NATO have made the Balkans more secure and peaceful. Slovenian soldiers’ brave efforts in Afghanistan helped provide hope to all Afghans. Slovenia and the United States have expanded investment and trade through our economic partnership and deepened our collaboration in the academic sector. We look forward to continuing to advance peace, European integration, and economic growth in the decades to come. As you celebrate this important day, I wish all Slovenians peace and prosperity. |
