On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I offer my warmest congratulations to the citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands on the 36th anniversary of your nation’s independence this May 1. Our two countries share a rich friendship as embodied in our Compact of Free Association. This is a friendship not just between our governments but between the citizens of our two countries. We are grateful for the sacrifices made by Marshallese citizens serving among the men and women of our U.S. Armed Forces. We look forward to continuing to work together on combating climate change, advancing economic development, promoting human rights, improving disaster preparedness and response, and expanding health and education services for all Marshallese citizens. Congratulations and best wishes for continued progress, prosperity, and peace in the coming year. |
