Press Releases: Small Group Meeting on the Ebola Outbreak in West Africa on the Margins of the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit 08/04/2014 04:34 PM EDT Small Group Meeting on the Ebola Outbreak in West Africa on the Margins of the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit Media Note Office of the Spokesperson Washington, DC August 4, 2014 U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Sylvia Mathews Burwell, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Tom Frieden consulted today with the President of Guinea Alpha Condé, and senior officials from Liberia and Sierra Leone about the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa. The group identified national and regional priorities and held intensive discussions on the types of assistance needed to mount an effective response. Secretary Burwell and Director Frieden reiterated U.S. engagement and support for efforts to control the outbreak and address the challenge. The discussions took place on the margins of the U.S.-African Leaders Summit now taking place in Washington.
