On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send my best wishes to the people of Malaysia as you celebrate the 57th anniversary of your nation’s independence this August 31. The United States and Malaysia enjoy a warm friendship and close relations. Our Comprehensive Partnership, inaugurated during President Obama’s historic visit to Malaysia in April, reflects both a history of our cooperation and amity and our shared vision for a peaceful and productive future. Focusing on regional stability, strengthening ASEAN, and promoting trade and economic growth, this partnership highlights the shared interests that bring our countries together. The United States looks forward to creating stronger ties between our governments, businesses, and peoples as we look to promote peace and prosperity in the region and the world. I wish all Malaysians a joyous celebration, continued success in the coming year, and a happy Merdeka Day. |
