The G7 Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction (Global Partnership) will hold its first meeting under Japan’s Chairmanship, to be held in Tokyo, January 14 – 15, 2016. The 29-member Global Partnership initiative will continue its efforts of coordinating programming in the areas of chemical, biological, and radiological and nuclear (CBRN) security. Other specific areas of focus will include support to the 2016 Biological Weapons Convention Review Conference (BWC RevCon) and the 2016 UN Security Council Resolution 1540 Comprehensive Review, coordinating efforts between the Global Partnership and the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA), implementing priorities following the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit, matching CBRN security needs to GP member state resources, and continued discussions on threat reduction programming in Ukraine. Ambassador Bonnie Jenkins, Coordinator of Threat Reduction Programs, will lead the interagency U.S. delegation to the meeting.
