The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will be hosting a webinar entitled "Outcomes of the global workshop to address remaining challenges for total phase-out of methyl bromide in developing countries", 23-25 February 2014, Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt."
The session will take place on April 8 at 14:00 CEST. From the website:
"As the methyl bromide (MB) phase-out deadline approaches, it is critical to address the prevailing challenges and thus ensure A5 countries readiness for MB Phase-out by 1st Jan 2015. It is important to evaluate existing strategies and tactics, and to implement control measures to enable complete phase-out to happen. It is significant to discuss and address the underlining issues via available forum such as this webinar. By evaluating the current challenges and persistent areas of difficulty for full adoption of proven alternatives for some applications if any, the participating experts will fill in gaps between the capacity of A-5 countries including their applicable policies and regulations and the efficiency and cost of alternatives. This way, A5 Countries will be more prepared for MB phase-out by 1st Jan 2015.
Building-up on the agenda, this webinar session facilitated by Khaled Klaly and Florence Asher, UNEP OzonAction CAP / ROA and ROWA, will address the following topic:
- Global Policy and Technical Workshop on Methyl Bromide "Towards a successful total phase out: Approaches and Challenges" ( Sharm El- Sheikh, 23-25 Feb); Overview of the Objectives and main Outcomes, Mr. Khaled Klaly and Ms. Florence Asher, UNEP OzonAction CAP / ROWA and ROA
- "Issues and Challenges of MB phase out in the Soil sector and QPS", Prof. Mohammed Besri
- "Towards a Sustainable MB phase out in the Postharvest applications", Prof. Mohammed Shazali"
