Research Fellow (M/F)
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is the result of the merger of the University of Karlsruhe and the Research Centre, Karlsruhe. The European Institute for Energy Research (EIFER) was established as a collaboration between the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Electricité de France (EDF) and is located in Karlsruhe, Technologiepark. Today EIFER has a multi-cultural team of more than 100 employees.
Within the group "Energy Planning and Geosimulation" we are currently looking for a Research Fellow
in order to further develop the competence in the field of "Transport Simulation and Mobility Studies".
Within the group "Energy Planning and Geosimulation", the simulation of mobility behaviours and mobility systems aims at knowing the impact of policies, contextual changes or incentives to describe future scenarios of energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and local environmental impacts. _The new employee will take part in the continuous development of spatial modelling approaches related to mobility and also work on the analysis and communication of simulation results.
The assigned tasks involve:
Empirical research on urban mobility, models with several simulation methodologies (System Dynamics, Agent Based Modeling, GIS) and technological issues
Understand and further develop existing mobility models (Land Use Transport Interaction models, Accessibility models, Four Steps models)
Apply models to case studies in French or international cities or regions
Interact with local authorities for the data collection and model validation
Required qualifications are:
The job applicant should hold a Master degree or equivalent in urban simulation, transportation engineering, urban engineering or system analysis, and ideally has gained first professional experiences.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English
Curiosity to work in a trans-disciplinary team and the ability to understand and integrate systemic interactions with other fields
Technical understanding in the field of electro mobility is seen as an advantage
The applicants should enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary team.
The duration of the position is two years, starting in July 2014. The salary is based on qualification and experience according to TV-L E-13 (100 %)
