DAR ES SALAAM – 6 FEBRUARY 2014: - One of Tanzania's premier secondary schools, St. Mary's Mazinde Juu Secondary School of Lushoto, Tanga, this year celebrates 25 years of its existence. The Silver Jubilee event will be marked by a major expansion project of the school to be funded by initially by private donations.

A program released by the school shows that Jubilee activities will start on Saturday 8th February 2014 with
a major fund raising activity to be presided over by the former Prime Minister, Hon. Edward Lowassa, who will grace the event as the Guest of Honour, at the Msimbazi Centre in Dar es Salaam, from 10:00 am in the morning.

St. Mary's Mazinde Juu, whose nationwide ranking was 8th in 2012 for O-level and 6th in 2013 for A-level, was established in 1989. As the school marks 25 years of its existence, they plan to mobilize funds from well-wishers for construction of various buildings at the school premises based in Lushoto, Tanga.

"The funds will be used for construction of modern science and computer laboratories, staff houses and a modern sports hall for indoor games," says Sister Evetha Kilamba, the school's headmistress adding that the expected cost of this expansion project is 800-million shillings.

Sr. Evetha said that actual Silver Jubilee celebrations will take place on 1st March 2014 at the school in Lushoto.

A program made available on the fund raising exercise shows that other activities that will hype the event include; auctioning of fundraising items as well as entertainment.

The school is known nationally for providing quality education to Tanzanian girls, the majority of whom have made it to universities both within and outside the country, and some have become professionals in different fields, members of parliament and government ministers. Over the past years, St. Mary's Mazinde Juu has been able to persistently rank among the top 10 best performing schools in Tanzania.

To further enhance the learning environment at the school, Sr. Evetha Kilamba and the School Board invite all like-minded stakeholders, alumni and well-wishers to join in celebrating this remarkable event and be part of another step towards improving the school's learning environment for Tanzanian girls.
