[wanabidii] Traffic Offences taken very seriously

Monday, November 04, 2013
This driver in Arizona, US, was surfing the Net and looking at photos of almost nude/naked women on his phone. The next thing he knew, his 18-wheeler was ploughing into cars and a police car too. One cop dead.
He's been charged with 20 offences related to the accident but like any good American, he's denied all the charges. Now it's on to court.
I think he's going down on this one. 10 yrs in jail/prison.

Here is the story:

Caught: Espinoza had partially covered the camera with his wallet

A fuel tanker driver was looking at photos of scantily-clad women on his mobile phone when he ploughed into police cars at 65 mph, killing a safety officer, it has emerged.

Jorge Espinoza, 33, was driving his 18-wheel truck on an Arizona highway in May this year when he smashed into three police cars and two fire trucks parked at the scene of an earlier accident.

Public safety officer Tim Huffman, 47,  who was in one of the patrol cars at the time writing a report, was declared dead at the scene.

One witness statement said the truck was 'tossing cars around like they were toys'.

EspinozBut dashboard video emerged proving he was driving while surfing the internet looking at 'photographs of several women in provocative positions, wearing little clothing'.

And the video also appears to show that Espinoza had tried to cover the dashboard camera with his wallet.

Investigators say that Espinnoza used his mobile to look at Facebook, YouTube, female escort sites, porn sites and social networks on other occasions while at the wheel of his truck.

Espinoza, from Yuma, Arizona, has pleaded not guilty to 20 charges including one count of second-degree murder, endangerment and criminal damage.

Adapted from The Mirror

a, who escaped from the wreck unhurt, said he didn't see the police vehicles because he was looking in his mirror at a passing lorry when he suddenly felt the violent jolt from the crash.

He also claimed he never used his mobile while driving as it was against company policy.
