This common grammatical error came to my attention yesterday when I was speaking to some Indian friend here. He made the same mistake 3 times in a 15-min conversation and that's why it stuck to my mind.
I think I've probably brought this up here in the past but i just want to make sure other people who did not see it keep making the same mistake.
Take the following 2 sentences:
The reason why I am late is because my car broke down halfway through my trip here.
The reason why I'm late is that my car broke down halfway through my trip here.
Which sentence is grammatically correct? This is the last time I'm bringing this thing up.
