On behalf of President Obama and the United States, I congratulate the people of Macedonia as you celebrate your Independence Day. The United States is proud to be Macedonia’s friend and partner, and we remain committed to helping Macedonia proceed along the path to Euro-Atlantic integration by strengthening rule of law, promoting media freedom, and building strong democratic foundations for an inclusive, multi-ethnic society. As our nations work together to address the challenges of this century, the people of Macedonia have an opportunity to pull together in efforts to strengthen your institutions and undertake necessary reforms. The United States has supported Macedonia’s development and transition over the last 24 years, and we celebrate all that the people of Macedonia have achieved since independence. We pledge to continue our work together toward a democratic, secure, and prosperous future. Congratulations and best wishes for continued progress, prosperity, and peace in the coming year. |
