The U.S. Department of State is proud to announce Global Diaspora Week (GDW), which will run from October 11-17, 2015, and calls for the Department, organizations, and individuals to participate by hosting diaspora-related events and activities around the world.

GDW is held annually to create awareness, enable collaboration and enhance learning amongst those working with diaspora communities in different locations around the world. The week is organized by the International diaspora Engagement Alliance (IdEA), a partnership between the Secretary’s Office of Global Partnerships (S/GP), the U.S. Global Development Lab at the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the Calvert Foundation.

The 2015 GDW will provide a platform to showcase exemplary initiatives in international development and diplomacy by diaspora communities around the world, highlight paths to success for diaspora engagement, and allow for collaboration between the public and private sectors and civil society.

GDW partners encourage any organization or individual to organize local events that highlight the impact of diaspora communities or showcase potential opportunities for local organizations. Approved GDW activities could range from formal in-person events to online chats; last year’s GDW included more than 70 events worldwide. Visit the IdEA website to register your event, and it will be showcased on the virtual Diaspora Map and across partner platforms leading up to the week.

Follow GDW on social media with #GDW2015, @DiasporaIdEA, @DiasporaAtState, @GPatState, @GlobalDevLab and @USAID.
