What's on? | Magna Carta teaching resources Monday 15 June marks the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, the document that laid the foundations for the rights and representation that we enjoy today. This month, take a look at Parliament’s full selection of Magna Carta themed teaching resources and lesson plans, including our Magna Carta assembly plan, and the new Emergence of Parliament interactive online resource that uses source materials digitised by The National Archives. Apply now for our January 2016 CPD opportunity 75 teachers from all parts of the UK will be heading to Westminster later this month for Teachers’ Institute. This free programme is an exciting professional development opportunity for teachers to immerse themselves in the politics of Parliament. If you’d like to apply for the 3 day event on 25 - 27 January, please email teachertraining@parliament.uk for an application form. Inquiry into Mental Health - watch and follow online This year the Youth Select Committee - a British Youth Council initiative, supported by the House of Commons - is holding an inquiry into mental health services. The oral evidence sessions are being held on Friday 26 June and Friday 3 July. You can watch online at www.parliamentlive.tv and join in via social media using #youthselect. HM The Queen to visit schools' flags display The 80 flags designed by UK school children that recently flew for a week in Parliament Square, are now winging their way over to Runnymede in Surrey to be displayed at the Magna Carta anniversary event on 15 June. Here they will be seen by members of the Royal family including Her Majesty The Queen! Take a look at all the flags that have been submitted to the online exhibition and if your school hasn’t already done so, get your students to design a flag to represent their local area or community and add it to the growing flag community. Attend a LiberTea this weekend On Sunday 14 June at 3pm, be part of the national LiberTeas moment marking the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, and sit down to tea to celebrate, debate or reflect on your freedoms and rights.
