Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Sarah Sewall will travel to Kenya from June 24-27, 2015. Under Secretary Sewall will lead the United States Delegation to the June 25-27 East Africa Regional Summit on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE), hosted by the Government of Kenya in Nairobi. The Summit, the fourth in a series of regional summits following the February White House Summit to Counter Violent Extremism, will provide an opportunity for governments, civil society, and the private sector to discuss collaborative, innovative efforts to address the spread of violent extremism. Topics will include the typologies and drivers of violent extremism, the architecture and dynamics of radicalization and recruitment, countering violent extremism in cyberspace and the media, promoting research and learning for evidence-driven action, and strengthening local preventive work.
