Film Screening of Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine

On Friday, June 12, the Department of State and the Council for Global Equality will screen the award winning documentary Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine. This film powerfully shares the story of University of Wyoming student, Matthew Shepard, who was beaten and killed for being gay. Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBTI Persons Randy Berry will give opening remarks at 6:45 p.m. These remarks will be open to credentialed members of the media. The film will be followed by a question and answer session with the film’s director Michele Josue, and with Mathew’s parents Dennis and Judy Shepard, who are activists against bias-motivated crimes.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held in the George Marshall Center Auditorium at the Department of State.

Pre-set time for video cameras: 5:30 p.m. from the 21st Street entrance.

Final access time for journalists, videographers, and still photographers: 5:45 p.m. from the 21st Street entrance.

Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).
