U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Malta Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley presided over an opening ceremony today alongside the Department’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations and local officials to celebrate commencement of construction for an energy-savings project at the U.S. Embassy in Valletta. The project includes two photovoltaic systems to provide solar power, a small wind turbine, and a solar pool heater. The Department of State has contracted with Solar Solutions LTD of Malta on the project, which is scheduled to be completed in March 2016. OBO’s mission is to provide safe, secure, and functional facilities that represent the U.S. government to the host nation and support our staff in the achievement of U.S. foreign policy objectives. These facilities should represent American values and the best in American architecture, engineering, technology, sustainability, art, culture, and construction execution.
