The United States will send an interagency delegation to the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Crime Congress) in Doha, Qatar, to engage with civil society, academic experts, and government leaders from across the globe in the pursuit of criminal justice and good governance. The U.S. delegation will be led by Ambassador Luis Arreaga, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and Special Representative of the Secretary of State to the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

The Crime Congress will include a notable broad array of experts in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice, with NGO leaders, academics, and journalists joining diplomats and other government officials at various sessions. The U.S. delegation looks forward to discussing the nexus between crime prevention, the rule of law, and sustainable development with attendees from all sectors.

U.S. goals include working with counterparts from around the world to advance international cooperation in fighting transnational crime—including promoting implementation of the UN Conventions against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and Corruption (UNCAC)— and supporting steps to integrate criminal justice into the wider United Nations agenda, particularly in the areas of sustainable development and improved governance.
