In advance of the 2015 World Press Freedom Day, on Monday, April 27, 2015, at 9:00 a.m., the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor will host a State of Rights event on media freedom and press access in China. The event will be held in the Harry S. Truman Building’s Dean Acheson Auditorium.

Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Tom Malinowski will deliver opening remarks and moderate a discussion among journalists with extensive reporting experience in China. Guest panelists will include James Fallows, The Atlantic, William Wan, Washington Post; Kathleen McLaughlin, Knight Science Journalism Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Melissa Chan, Al Jazeera.

The State of Rights series engages experts and citizens in dialogue on trends that affect countries around the world. Each event incorporates a live audience, and invites online participants to ask questions during and after the event through the use of #StateOfRights on Twitter to open the discussion on important global policies. For more information, including how to participate in the conversation on Twitter, and view a live video stream of the event, please visit HumanRights.gov/StateOfRights.
