Secretary of State John Kerry To Host Reception to Celebrate the Groundbreaking for the USA Pavilion at Milan Expo 2015

Secretary of State John Kerry will deliver remarks at a reception on Wednesday, July 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Department of State celebrating the groundbreaking for the USA Pavilion at Milan Expo 2015, which will take place the same day in Milan, Italy.

The USA Pavilion, “American Food 2.0: United to Feed the Planet,” will showcase American leadership on global food issues, including food security and policy, science and technology, nutrition and health, and culinary culture. The United States is among 147 nations participating in Expo Milano 2015, a world’s fair in Milan, Italy from May 1 to October 31, 2015. With the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” the Milan Expo will promote a global dialogue about the future of our food system.

The U.S. Department of State has selected the Friends of the U.S. Pavilion Milano 2015 as its private sector partner to work with the U.S. Government to develop and implement an official American presence at the Expo. The Friends of the U.S. Pavilion consortium includes the James Beard Foundation and the International Culinary Center, in association with the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy. In addition to pavilion sponsors and other business representatives, guests include key members of the administration, Congress, and the diplomatic and food security communities.

The main components of the USA Pavilion program are Farm to Table and Back to Farm, Innovation Challenge, Food Forum, Food Truck Nation, U.S. Cultural Events, the Student Ambassador Program, and the James Beard American Restaurant.

Secretary Kerry’s remarks will be open to the press.

Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).
