Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs Douglas Frantz will host a Google+ Hangout to discuss the outlook for press freedom in the world today on Friday, May 2, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. (EDT). Carlos Lauria, Senior Americas Program Coordinator for the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Jason Mojica, Editor-in-Chief of VICE News, and Lotfullah Najafizada, Head of TOLOnews TV in Afghanistan, will join the conversation. The Hangout will be broadcast live on the U.S. Department of State’s YouTube channel and Google+ page.

The Hangout commemorates World Press Freedom Day, which we recognize each year on May 3. From April 25 to May 2, the State Department is profiling journalists or media outlets under threat because of their reporting; the profiles are available on www.HumanRights.gov as part of the “Free the Press” campaign.
