Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration Anne C. Richard Leads U.S. Delegation to the Global Forum on Migration and Development

On May 13, Assistant Secretary Richard will lead the U.S. delegation to the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) Summit in Stockholm, Sweden. This year’s theme is “Unlocking the Potential of Migration for Inclusive Development.” The delegation will include representatives from the Departments of Labor and Homeland Security and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Assistant Secretary Richard will deliver remarks on the positive contributions of migrants to their host societies, and the delegation will meet with government officials, representatives from the United Nations, and civil society actors.

The United States works to protect the world’s most vulnerable migrants through targeted programs and coordinated efforts to shape global migration policy. Specifically, it seeks to protect and assist asylum-seekers and other vulnerable migrants and advance effective and humane international migration policies. The United States works to achieve this mission through engagement in multilateral fora related to migration such as the Global Forum on Migration and Development.
