Business, government, and media representatives from Kosovo and Serbia are visiting the United States looking at ways to expand their economies through tourism. The Governments of Serbia and Kosovo have identified the tourism sector as an area for growth, and the participants will build networks with each other and American businesses. This exchange contributes to the U.S. Government goal of promoting global trade and strengthening world economies.

After arriving in Los Angeles on April 16, the participants continued to Washington, D.C. and New York. They are currently taking part in week-long internships in Atlanta, Georgia; Bozeman, Montana; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Memphis, Tennessee.

The group of 16 will work with such organizations as the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board and the U.S. Department of Commerce Cultural Heritage Tourism Exchange, and they will also engage with attendees of the New York Travel Festival. In Atlanta, the group will focus on urban development for tourism including branding; in Bozeman, the emphasis will be on mountain tourism; in Albuquerque, it will be tourism connected to history and traditions; and in Memphis, the group will explore cultural tourism and festival planning.

The exchange is supported by the State Department’s Professional Fellows On-Demand Program, a professional exchange which addresses foreign policy goals. Follow the Professional Fellows Program on Twitter at @profellows.
