Today, five law enforcement and revenue officers from the country of Georgia completed an extensive K-9 narcotics detection course conducted by the U.S. Park Police and sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) teamed with the U.S. Park Police (USPP) as a result of its known expertise in canine handling. The USPP training regimen covers the management of canine facilities, training and handling of canines, and transportation.

INL and USPP organized this training in cooperation with the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Finance Revenue Service. The training aimed to improve the ability of law enforcement units in Georgia to combat the trafficking of illicit drugs and develop cases against drug trafficking organizations by creating this canine task force team. Upon returning to Georgia, the canines and their handlers will begin working at the Tbilisi International Airport.

USPP has worked with INL since 2008 on international law enforcement exchanges.
