The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, in partnership with the World Environment Center (WEC), is pleased to announce that the Pathways to Prosperity in the Americas Innovation Challenge is accepting applications starting March 13, 2014. The Pathways Innovation Challenge will use a competition process to identify existing solutions in the region for helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) succeed. As many as four winners will each receive up to USD 500,000 and technical support to help them scale up or replicate their solutions. SMEs create the vast majority of new jobs in Latin America, but often struggle to grow and remain competitive in the global marketplace. The Pathways Innovation Challenge will discover, field test, and reward small-scale solutions that have proven successful in overcoming structural barriers to business. The Pathways Challenge is open to all organizations globally – non-profit organizations, private companies, or public entities – with a primary applicant operating in a Pathways to Prosperity member country other than the United States and Canada. Prior to submitting an application, entrants must register for the Pathways Innovation Challenge at challenge.wec.org by April 16, 2014. Applicants who meet eligibility requirements and qualifications will be invited to apply before April 30, 2014.
