The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and the U.S. Educational Foundation in Pakistan, will sponsor the second Fulbright Pakistan Reentry Social Entrepreneurship Seminar, March 26-30, 2014, in Washington, DC, for 115 Pakistani Fulbright students. The seminar will focus on the impact of the Fulbright experience on participants and how they can implement principles of social entrepreneurship when they return to Pakistan. The Fulbrighters will go on site visits to organizations involved in social entrepreneurship activities around Washington, DC. ECA Assistant Secretary Evan Ryan and His Excellency Jalil Abbas Jilani, the Ambassador of Pakistan, will give opening remarks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, at the National Press Club, followed by a keynote address by Stephen Rasmussen, the manager of technology and business model innovation at the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor. The remainder of the seminar will be hosted by American University’s Intercultural Management Institute. Since 1950, the U.S. and Pakistani governments have cooperated on the Fulbright Program in Pakistan. More than 2,800 Pakistanis and 880 U.S. citizens have been awarded Fulbright grants to study or research in the United States and in Pakistan, respectively. Since 2001, there have been more than 1,600 Fulbrighters from Pakistan to the United States, and approximately 60 Americans have traveled to Pakistan on a Fulbright grant. There are currently 432 Pakistani Fulbright students in the United States pursuing Master’s and Ph.D. degrees. For over 60 years, the Fulbright Program has been a flagship U.S. government international exchange program, supported by the people of the United States and partner countries around the world. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 325,000 participants from over 160 countries with the opportunity to study, teach, conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
