[wanabidii] The Kisii Road Accicident; What do medics say!

Monday, July 15, 2013
"Its surgically wrong to airlift people who have been involved in a road traffic accident.
It sounds good to the general public but is grave to patients mostly those with open fractures.
The better option is to airlift medical staff to the hospital for advanced care there.
We will lose most of them not because of accident but from an Embolism.
For political scores is a score but in real fact its punishable in medicine
" - Dr. O*****I Br.

While in shock over the road accident, I saw a News brief in another social forum that the President had ordered airlifting of the victims for better treatment at KNH from Kisii - I was among those that made a congratulatory appreciation only to find the above message by a medic friend.

Strictly with politics aside, was it medically appropriate to airlift or medics and other medical resources could have been assembled and airlifted for services without transporting the victims far noting the delicateness of the injured!

And among the presidency handlers, don't we have advisors with medical skills or have the president act through the relevant Ministry (Health) !

*Please note;-
Some information to be confirmed.

a). The bus was hired to carry students of about 5 or so schools that at the material time carried a bout 87 instead of 52 being the required capacity.

b).The driver is said to have been qualified for a Pro Box class driving vehicle but got the job as school driver through a behind the scenes deal!

c).The road is undulating (valleys + hills) of the kisii highland and the driver was not used, besides it was getting dark.
