Kenya has a problem of tribalism, then hatujaona chochote kumbe.
Tanzania seems to have a serious problem of religionism. There are a
lot of conflicts between Muslims and Christians. Things have gotten so
bad that even Secondary schools are now affected. In one school in
Bagamoyo, Mkoa wa Pwani, elections for school prefects turned so
volatile that the Principal took off and abandoned the school. Moslem
students felt marginalized and boycotted the elections. Christians
went ahead and voted their slate anyway. An attempt to announce the
results turned violent and Christian students also packed their
belongings and took off. Now, I'm reading on the forums that several
secondary schools in Bagamoyo area are affected and Christian students
and teachers are fleeing for their lives.
This is sad because religionism and tribalism are the 2 vices that
Mwalimu Nyerere had completely decimated. What happened to Tanzania
after Ujamaa ended? Tanzania is even overtaking Kenya now with crime,
corruption and police brutality !! I weep for the Tanzania that I knew
as a young lad. I would listen to their Radio Stations, Sauti ya Taifa
and Sauti ya Biashara 24 hrs a day.
I hope it's not the wealth from Gold, Diamond and Natural Gas that's
changing them. Pesa ni shetani.
Another wonder is that Bagamoyo, the Ground Zero for this religious
conflict, is President Jakaya Kikwete's hometown. Why can't he
personally do something to solve this conflict, especially in
secondary schools? Mtume !!!
Courage
