[wanabidii] Language Differences

Friday, November 16, 2012
Today I was talking to a reporter friend whose English I really
respect. I took the opportunity to ask him to clear some trivial thing
that's really been bugging (bothering) me for a while now.

I notice that Kenyans always say 'Mum' when referring to Mother. I've
always thought this was a mistake. Americans and Canadians say 'Mom'.

You know what? Both are correct. The British (European English),
Australians and New Zealanders say 'Mum' but North Americans say
'Mom'.

I'm now at peace with this word. Next time I see someone write 'Mum',
I wont (will not) be bothered.

Same thing with 'Honour' (British) and 'Honor' (American).

Courage
