U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will deliver a speech on Climate Change and National Security at 11:30 a.m. on November 10, 2015, in the Ted Constant Convocation Center at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

ODU’s Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Initiative has facilitated research and education in all aspects of climate change and sea level rise, and it houses the Center for Sea Level Rise and the Hampton Roads Sea Level Rise Preparedness and Resilience Intergovernmental Planning Pilot Project, which is the first of its kind.

While in Norfolk, Secretary Kerry will also tour the USS San Antonio and receive a briefing at the Maritime Operations Center.

In addition, he will meet with a group of Old Dominion University students majoring in various programs—such as engineering, oceanography, modeling and simulation, and social sciences—aspiring to be the next generation of scientists working on solutions to the issues of climate change and sea level rise.

USS San Antonio Ship Tour and U.S. Marine Corps Cake Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the U.S. Marine Corps 240th birthday at 9:00 a.m.:

Secretary Kerry’s Speech at 11:30 a.m.:

The Secretary’s speech will be open to the press. The speech will be streamed live on www.state.gov. Media are required to RSVP to Giovanna Genard at ggneard@odu.com by 8:00 p.m. on November 9.

Pre-set time for video cameras and still photographers: 9:30 a.m. at the South Entrance of 4320 Hampton Blvd.

Final access time for journalists: 10:00 a.m. at the South Entrance of 4320 Hampton Blvd.
