U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will highlight why American leadership abroad remains vital and outline U.S. foreign policy in a changing world during a speech at Indiana University’s School of Global and International Studies—in the Auditorium of Indiana University—at 11:00 a.m. on October 15, 2015. Secretary Kerry will then attend a luncheon at the School of Global and International Studies, which marks the opening of the new building housing the school at IU. Welcoming Secretary Kerry to the University will be IU President Michael A. McRobbie, IU Bloomington Provost and Executive Vice President Lauren Robel, and Ambassador Lee Feinstein, founding dean of the School of Global and International Studies. They will be joined by other university leadership, local and state dignitaries, and Secretary Kerry’s longtime congressional colleagues from Indiana, former Senator Richard Lugar, who served as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and former Congressman Lee Hamilton, who chaired the House Committee on Foreign Relations and co-chaired the 9/11 Commission. Media with video cameras and still cameras will need to only cover the speech or the luncheon toasts, or provide two separate camera crews for the open press events. Secretary Kerry’s Speech: Secretary Kerry’s speech, at 11:00 a.m., will be open to the press. Pre-set time for video cameras and still photographers: 9:30 a.m. in the Auditorium of Indiana University. Final access time for journalists: 10:15 a.m. in the Auditorium of Indiana University. Luncheon Toasts: The luncheon, at 12:40 p.m., will be open to the press for toasts by Secretary Kerry, Former Senator Dick Lugar, and Former Congressman Lee Hamilton. Pre-set time for video cameras and still photographers: 11:15 a.m. in the Atrium of the School of Global and International Studies. Final access time for journalists: 12:00 p.m. in the Atrium of the School of Global and International Studies. The speech and the luncheon will be streamed live on www.state.gov and broadcast.iu.edu . Follow @StateDeptLive and @IUBloomington during the event. Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).
