On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I would like to congratulate the people of Tuvalu as you celebrate the 37th anniversary of your nation’s independence this October 1st. The strong relationship between the United States and Tuvalu is a result of our shared democratic values, mutual ideals and goals for peace and security, as well as our desire to better the livelihoods of our citizens. Our two countries collaborate on a range of issues including efforts to conserve the environment, mitigate the effects of climate change, and protect our oceans. I am gratified that the ties that bind our countries and people continue to strengthen. Again, I send all Tuvaluans our best wishes for a happy and healthy Independence Day celebration with good will and success in the year ahead. |
