On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I would like to congratulate the people of Malaysia as you celebrate the 58th anniversary of your nation’s independence this August 31. The United States and Malaysia enjoy a warm friendship and close relations, which I experienced first-hand during my recent visit to Kuala Lumpur. The cooperation between our two nations on economic and security matters contributes to stability and prosperity throughout Southeast Asia and beyond. We look forward to continuing and expanding ties between our governments, businesses, and peoples in order to bring greater prosperity to Americans and Malaysians alike. As you celebrate this special day with family, friends and loved ones, I wish all Malaysians around the world a happy Merdeka Day and a peaceful, joyous year to come. |
