On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I send best wishes to the people of Liberia as you celebrate 168 years of independence on July 26. The United States and Liberia share a bond that dates to the first days of your republic. Together, we will continue to work toward a future of prosperity, dignity, and stability for all Liberians. I applaud the steps you have taken to strengthen your democracy and promote trade and investment. We are dedicated to working with you to consolidate regional peace and security, support economic development, strengthen democratic institutions, and reinforce our joint effort to counter the spread of Ebola in West Africa. As you gather with family and friends, I wish you a joyous National Day. |
