Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel R. Russel travels to Singapore and Malaysia

Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel R. Russel will travel to Singapore and Malaysia, June 6-13.

In Singapore on June 8, he will meet with senior Singapore Government officials to consult on bilateral and regional issues, including cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Assistant Secretary Russel will travel to Kuching, Malaysia, June 9-10, to lead the U.S. delegation to the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Senior Officials meetings, where he will discuss regional security, joint cooperation activities, and regional development issues in preparation for the ARF Ministerial meeting later this year. Assistant Secretary Russel will lead a meeting of the Lower Mekong Initiative to discuss sustainable development in the Lower Mekong sub-region.

In Kuala Lumpur, June 11-12, Assistant Secretary Russel will hold a wide range of bilateral meetings with Malaysian Government officials and participate in the U.S.-Malaysia Senior Officials Dialogue. While in Kuala Lumpur, he also will meet with civil society leaders and Malaysian participants in the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI).

Assistant Secretary Russel will return to Washington, D.C. on June 13.
