Secretary Kerry's Reception for the U.S. Chairmanship of the Arctic Council

Secretary of State John Kerry will host a reception celebrating the U.S. Chairmanship of the Arctic Council at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, in the Benjamin Franklin Room at the Department of State.

Secretary Kerry and U.S. Special Representative for the Arctic Admiral Robert Papp will deliver remarks.

At this event, Secretary Kerry will discuss U.S. priorities in the Arctic and the vision for the two-year U.S. Chairmanship of the Arctic Council. Invited guests include Foreign Ministers from Arctic Council Members States, Cabinet members, members of Congress, the diplomatic corps, Senior Arctic Officials, officials from the State of Alaska and the Arctic Council Secretariat, and representatives of indigenous groups and civil society organizations.

Secretary Kerry’s remarks will be open to the press and streamed live on www.state.gov. Follow @StateDeptLive and @USArctic using the hashtag #OneArctic.

Pre-set time for video cameras: 5:15 p.m. from the C Street Entrance.

Final access time for journalists and still photographers: 5:30 p.m. from the C Street Entrance.

Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).
