Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy R. Sherman Travel to China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan

Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy R. Sherman will travel next week to China, the Republic of Korea (ROK), and Japan. Ambassador Sherman will meet with a wide range of government officials and non-governmental experts to advance our relationships in these countries.

Ambassador Sherman will meet with senior government officials in Beijing, January 27–28, to discuss ongoing cooperation on a wide range of issues, including the P5+1 negotiations with Iran. Her visit reflects continuing high-level U.S. engagement with China and the importance of strengthening our bilateral relationship.

Ambassador Sherman will then travel to Seoul, January 28–29, to engage with a range of senior officials and non-governmental experts in support of our alliance, and to continue close coordination with the ROK on North Korea issues and our shared regional and global priorities.

In Tokyo, January 29–30, Ambassador Sherman will meet Japanese political figures and senior government officials to discuss a broad range of bilateral, regional and global issues. The visit provides an opportunity to highlight our strong partnership with Japan and our global cooperation.

Under Secretary Sherman will return to Washington, D.C. on January 31.
