More than 1,000 public and private security professionals from U.S.-based businesses, academia, faith-based institutions, nongovernmental organizations, and the federal government will gather at the Department of State, November 19-20, for the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) 29th Annual Briefing, “Balancing Security and Privacy Challenges in an Information Age.”

Keynote addresses will be given by Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson and FBI Director James Comey. Secretary Johnson will speak at 9:05 a.m., and Director Comey will speak at 10:00 a.m.

The briefing also will include a panel discussion at 11:00 a.m. on “Ebola: Lessons Learned,” which will include panelists Dr. Kent Brantly and Dr. Lance Plyler of the nongovernmental organization Samaritan’s Purse. Dr. Brantly was successfully treated for Ebola following his infection in Liberia in July.

Stephen Brunette, Executive Director of OSAC, will provide opening remarks at 8:30 a.m., followed at 8:35 a.m. by a discussion on “The State of OSAC: Views from the Public/Private Sector Co-Chairs” with Bill Miller, Director of the Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service, and Jim Snyder, Chief Security Officer of ConocoPhillips.

The Overseas Security Advisory Council is a public-private partnership that facilitates the two-way exchange of security information between the U.S. Government and nearly 4,700 U.S. private sector organizations operating abroad. The Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security administers the Council.

Presentations during the morning of November 19 are open to the press from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All other sessions on November 19and those on November 20 are closed to the press.

There will be a designated press section in the Dean Acheson Auditorium, and all reporters who intend to cover the sessions should RSVP to DS/Public Affairs by 4:00 p.m., November 18 (see contact information below).

The morning session on Wednesday, November 19, begins at 8:30 a.m., with a press check-in by 8:15 a.m. (23rd Street Entrance).

Pre-set time for video cameras is 7:45 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance. (Note: In case the 23rd Street entrance is closed Wednesday morning due to potential construction, the C Street entrance will be the alternate entry location).

Reporters who wish to arrive later to cover only specific speakers must inform DS/Public Affairs when they register of their planned late arrival so that staff can meet them to ensure press credentialing and admittance through security. Please allow 30 minutes for security and entry procedures.

Media representatives may attend the open sessions upon presentation of one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued media credential with photo identification (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
