Secretary Kerry Delivers Keynote Remarks at the New Frontiers in Development Forum

Notice to the Press
Office of the Spokesperson
Washington, DC
September 18, 2014

Secretary of State John Kerry will deliver keynote remarks at the Frontiers in Development Forum at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 19, in the Amphitheater at USAID.

The Frontiers in Development Forum (www.usaid.gov/frontiers) is a major development event involving global leaders and engaging participants over two days of discussions, high-profile talks, and interactive panels on critical development issues.

Secretary Kerry will reinforce development’s role as a pillar of U.S. foreign policy. The Secretary will speak about the importance of inclusive economic growth and ending extreme poverty, advancing gender equality and integrating climate change into the world’s development agenda. Recognizing that no actor can address our global challenges alone, he will call on all actors to embrace the new frontier of development: to work with partners across the public and private sector, to mobilize new sources of financing, and to use data to deliver greater accountability and a results driven-approach.

In advance of the Forum, Secretary Kerry authored an essay outlining his views of the new frontier, and challenges world leaders to agree on an ambitious Post-2015 development agenda that responds to the demands of young people everywhere. The essay can be accessed at (www.usaid.gov/frontiers/2014/publication).

Secretary Kerry’s remarks will be open to the press.

Pre-set time for video cameras: 8:00 a.m. from the 14th Street Entrance.
Final access time for journalists and still photographers: 8:30 a.m. from the 14 Street Entrance.

The remarks will be streamed live on www.state.gov and www.usaid.gov/frontiers . Follow @StateDept, @StateDeptLive, @JohnKerry, and @USAID for tweets from the event using the hashtag #NewFrontiers.
