In recognition of 30 years of the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX) with Germany, the U.S. Department of State will welcome current American and German participants, as well as officials and program alumni who have made significant impacts in their communities, to a commemoration event on June 13 at the State Department.

The governments of the United States and Germany created CBYX in 1983 to develop a cadre of transatlantic leaders who would strengthen ties between the younger generations, improve career skills, and expand global perspectives and awareness. Now 30 years and 23,000 participants after the first exchanges in 1984, the program has strengthened relations between the two nations. Successful CBYX program alumni now include members of the German Bundestag, State ministers, officers at the United Nations, German and U.S. diplomats, journalists at major news outlets, and the founders of numerous businesses in Germany and the United States.

At the event, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Evan Ryan and Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland will acknowledge how the program has equipped emerging leaders with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed, and for investing in an enduring partnership between the American and German people. Approximately 120 alumni, representatives, and participants will come together to honor the anniversary of the exchange, including students who are returning home after having completed their year of study in the United States.
