On May 6, 2014, the U.S. Department of State hosted the annual U.S.-Swiss Joint Working Group. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Hoyt Yee opened the session with Ambassador Philippe Guex, Head of the Americas Division in the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. Over the course of the day, delegation members discussed a variety of topics including Ukraine, the Balkans, the Middle East, Africa, arms control, energy and the environment. The annual meetings of the Joint Working Group take place within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Switzerland and the United States in May 2006 to strengthen U.S.-Swiss cooperation in addressing a range of global challenges. |
