Press Releases: Publication of U.S. Department of Agriculture Data on ForeignAssistance.gov 05/28/2014 12:14 PM EDT Publication of U.S. Department of Agriculture Data on ForeignAssistance.gov Media Note Office of the Spokesperson Washington, DC May 28, 2014 The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is the latest agency to make its foreign assistance data available on the ForeignAssistance.gov website, bringing the total number of agencies to have published data to nine. The inclusion of USDA’s foreign assistance funding marks another significant step forward in the U.S. government’s commitment to achieving greater transparency in foreign assistance spending. The Department of State oversees the development and management of ForeignAssistance.gov. The website serves as a mechanism for users to view standardized foreign assistance data from across the U.S. Government. Nine agencies – USAID, the Departments of State, Defense, and the Treasury, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, U.S. African Development Foundation, Inter-American Development Foundation, the Peace Corps, and USDA – are now reporting data. ForeignAssistance.gov will continue to expand to include more detailed foreign assistance data from all U.S. Government agencies that fund or implement foreign assistance programs. USDA obligation and spending data are available at the transaction level, which allows users to examine the data by 37 qualitative data fields, including activity description, vendor names, and location, along with the financial data. Site visitors can navigate to USDA’s page from the Foreign Assistance by Agency page and explore the detailed data. Five of the nine USDA agencies implementing foreign assistance programs are reporting data to ForeignAssistance.gov: the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), the Forest Service (FS), the Foreign Agricultural Service’s (FAS) international food aid, and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).
