Taken Question
Washington, DC
April 2, 2014

Question: With whom will Tunisian Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa meet and what topics will be discussed during his visit to Washington?

Answer: April 2-4, Tunisian Prime Minster Mehdi Jomaa will be in Washington to participate in a bilateral meeting with President Obama at the White House. He will also meet with Deputy Secretary of State William Burns. These meetings are an opportunity to discuss the commitment Tunisia’s leaders have made to advancing Tunisia’s democracy and how the United States can further support Tunisia’s historic transition. The leaders will discuss a broad range of bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest, including U.S. economic, political, and security assistance to support the Prime Minister’s reform agenda and Tunisia’s stability. Prime Minister Jomaa will also meet with senior members of Congress, as well as officials from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

On April 3, Deputy Secretary William Burns will lead the U.S. delegation, and Tunisian Foreign Minister Monji Hamdi will lead the Tunisian delegation, in the first-ever U.S.-Tunisia Strategic Dialogue. The Dialogue will provide an opportunity for the United States and Tunisia to advance our shared interests and further the strong friendship between our countries.
