Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Catherine Russell will travel to the Middle East March 18-27. In Amman from March 18-21, Ambassador Russell will meet with women parliamentarians, business leaders, and civil society representatives. She will also meet with Syrian refugees as well as representatives of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the International Rescue Committee to address the particular challenges facing women and girls living in the refugee camps. Ambassador Russell will continue on to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Nazareth, and Ramallah March 22-25 to meet with a range of Israeli and Palestinian women to discuss the important stake women have in the peace process and their role in advancing support for a negotiated peace. She then will conclude her trip in Abu Dhabi and Dubai for meetings with government officials and prominent women from the public and private sectors to discuss women’s issues. Throughout the trip, Ambassador Russell will engage with interlocutors on challenges relating to women’s political and economic participation, as well as press for action to end violence against women and gender discrimination.
